WEB SITE OFFERS CLIPS OF AUTISTIC BEHAVIORS

What's so unusual about a baby fascinated with spinning a cup or a toddler flapping his hands, or a preschooler walking on their toes?
Parents and even doctors sometimes miss these red flags for autism, but a new online video " glossary" makes them startlingly clear.
A new Web site offers dozens of video clips of autistic kids contrasted with unaffected children's behavior. It is sponsored by two nonprofit advocacy groups.... Autism Speaks and First Signs.

The site is available on : www.autismspeaks.org This is the Autism Speaks site.

Life Of The Manatee

Hi, I'm your average manatee. I weigh about 1,000 pounds and am 10 feet long. I can live in fresh, brackish, or salt water. I can get sick and die if I stay too long in waters with a temperature of less than 68 degrees, so in the winter, I find a warm water source. In the summer, I roam throughout many of Florida's and Georgia's waterways. What I need is a clean water home, lots of naturally occuring plants to eat, space to travel, and safe, protected areas.
Manatees are protected under federal law by Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 and the Endangered Species Act of 1973, which make it illegal to harass, hunt, capture or kill any marine mammal. Manatees are also protected by the Florida Manatee Sanctuary Act of 1978. Anyone convicted of violating this state law faces a possible maximum fine of $500 and/or imprisonment for up to 60 days. Conviction on the federal level is punishable by a fine up to $50,000 and/or one year in prison. Feeding mamatees, giving them water, or otherwise altering their behavior can be considered harassment.
The Manatee Is believed To Be Behind The Myth Of The Mermaid.

So What's Wrong With Plastics And Styrofoam?

Birth defects, upper respiratory infection, cancer, and even death.

Think I'm referring to some chronic illness? or rampant virus? Think again- but first put down your Styrofoam cup...

No doubt, you use it everyday for coffee, for leftovers, for packing shipping materials, in your walls, behind your bathroom fixtures, in your car. It is styrofoam, and unless you're living in a cabin in the woods, it is endemic to your life.... I'll admit, it's hard not to love Styrofoam. It's cheap, lightweight, and does its job of cushioning and insulating our lives quite well. But there's one problem: It's also dangerous!... It's dangerous to the environment, it's dangerous to animals, and preliminary testing also shows, it can be dangerous to humans as well. The EPA has classified Styrene ( the chemical name for Styrofoam ) as a possible human carcinogen, and its effects on people in close contact during its manufacturing process have been found to suffer from many serious health problems and ill effects, including cancer and even death.

Plastic and Styrofoam are not biodegradable. It doesn't break down in landfills, at least not anytime in our lifetimes, or our children's. As most styrofoam products are made for one-time use situations ( cups, plates, packing materials ) , Stryrofoam takes up large quanties of landfill space. In fact, our landfills are already choked with Styrofoam and other plastic products- taking up more than one third of the 236 million tons of solid waste dumped into landfills every year.
And that's only if they actually make it to the landfill.

Worldwide, local, state, and national governments are passing legislation on a daily basis that will reduce, and eventually eliminate plastic and Styrofoam products from the face of the earth.

Bankruptcy Predicted to rise in 2008

Electronics and energy are seen as high-risk industries.

More U.S. businesses are likely to hang " going bankrupt " signs on their doors this year as the twin blows of slower economic growth and pricy cmmmodities force the weakest companies to seek refuge from creditors, according to Global Insight.

This year, industries at risk for the biggest increases in Chapter 11 filings include electronics makers, enery miners like coal companies and agriculture companies, Global Insight said.

Makers of durable goods like machinery also are more at risk and likely will contribute to 13 percent rise in bankruptcies in 2008, says the research firm.
